Praxis users can now work “hands free”

Los Angeles, California. – August 19, 2002 – Infor*Med Medical Information Systems, the makers of the Praxis® EMR, announced today that it has entered a partnership agreement with Acoustic Magic to sell the patented Voice Tracker™ array microphone with its Praxis Medical Records Software.

The Voice Tracker™ is the first professional grade array microphone which has been certified by both ScanSoft for use with Dragon NaturallySpeaking™ and IBM for use with ViaVoice.

The Voice Tracker™ forms a listening beam (like a searchlight), which locates and electronically steers toward the talker. This spatial filtering reduces background noise, creating a very high signal-to-noise ratio, which results in low recognition errors, long range and fast response. Users no longer need to be tethered by a headset, or encumbered by a handheld microphone.

PRAXIS, from Infor*Med Corporation, is the number one selling Electronic Medical Program in the small and medium size practices, and the ONLY EMR using a CONCEPT PROCESSOR to speed up charting, while increasing the quality of the written output.

According to Richard Low, M.D., Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Infor*Med, “it is critically important for a physician to work ‘hands-free’ in his environment, so that his main concern is only his patient. Voice Tracker™ enables medical practitioners to use voice recognition software, such as Dragon Naturally Speaking®, to enter information into Praxis. Voice Tracker™ is the first array microphone I have used that works effectively in a physician’s office.”

Acoustic Magic Launches USB Version of its Voice Tracker Array Microphone

This entry was posted in Press Release on by .

SUDBURY, Mass., July 11 /PRNewswire/ — Acoustic Magic, Inc. this week launched the USB version of its Voice Tracker™ desktop array microphone, designed to bring unprecedented levels of clarity to users of speech recognition word processing/voice control software and digital dictation SW as well as to participants in teleconferences.

The USB version allows direct connection of the Voice Tracker™ to the computer, bypassing the sound card and providing more consistent performance.

Enclosed in a sleek charcoal gray casing, the Voice Tracker™ fits unobtrusively under a computer monitor or on a conferencing stand and employs a “listening beam” that electronically follows talkers located in different positions around the room. The beam acts as an acoustic searchlight, picking up voices but spatially filtering out background noise. Because the device is freestanding, users are liberated from headsets and handheld dictating machines — allowing them to move around while dictating (speech recognition) or talking (digital dictation, teleconferencing).

The Voice Tracker™ is the only array microphone on the market that can scan a full 180 degrees; it can steer from one talker to the next in a few milliseconds. Its eight microphone elements and digital noise reduction algorithms greatly enhance sound quality.

The Voice Tracker™ is certified by ScanSoft® for use with its Dragon NaturallySpeaking® software and IBM for use with ViaVoice software. “This product will revolutionize the dictation process for customers who want to dictate to their computers but don’t want to wear a headset,” said Anke Conzelmann, Product Marketing Manager at ScanSoft.

According to Acoustic Magic President and CEO Bob Feingold, the Voice Tracker™ is also proving useful in VoIP and conventional teleconferencing because of its long range, wide field of view, noise reduction, and echo elimination features. The Voice Tracker™ is a dual function microphone: users can talk to their computer (speech recognition) and through their computer (VoIP teleconferencing).

The USB version of the Voice Tracker™ retails for $279 at the company’s on-line store (//www.Acoustic Magic.com) and is available directly from the website or through leading Value Added Resellers.

About Acoustic Magic, Inc. Acoustic Magic, located in the Boston suburbs, is a privately held company founded in 2000. The array technology used in the Voice Tracker™ was developed at Brown University and is exclusively licensed by Acoustic Magic.
